Our brief: The residents of Abbeyfield Nursing Home required a wheelchair accessible, all year round garden they could enjoy.
We wanted to bridge gaps in our community and give back by:
- Building relationships between staff and residents.
- Involve the wider community, encouraging local sports teams and businesses to get involved.
With sustainability in mind, we “up cycled” timber garden furniture, stripping it back and repainting it.
For ease in maintainance and upkeep we removed patches of grassy areas and created pebble borders and laid an irrigation system.
We designed and positioned an “all weather” garden shelter, accessible by wheelchair in what was an overgrown and unusable space in the garden. Now the shelter acts as a focal point for the garden. A meeting point for residents and staff.
Raised beds were added for ease of access and residents can simply get involved in planting without risk or difficulty!
